Operating a forklift requires much ability and versatility. Besides simply driving the lift, an operator must have the ability to balance, stack and properly lift heavy loads that are usually arranged on a pallet. Large items may be themselves attached to a pallet or possibly have indents for fork lifting built into the actual item. Shipping and receiving and warehouse operations in general are focused on using the least amount of space possible to arrange and store materials. As such, a forklift operator must be capable of using the machine to fit heavy and large pallets into smaller areas such as large shelving compartments.
